Peter Buckley
Project Manager, Southern Oregon Success
Peter Buckley served for 12 years in the Oregon House of Representatives (2005-17), representing south Jackson County. During his tenure, he served for 8 years as House Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Ways & Means, the legislature’s budget writing committee. After leaving the legislature, Peter was hired to lead Southern Oregon Success, a collaboration of all levels of education, health care, human services, public safety and workforce development in Jackson and Josephine counties, dedicated to working across all sectors to help children, families and communities thrive.
Southern Oregon Success leads the region’s efforts to raise awareness of the impact of trauma on child development and the specific tools that build resilience for children and families. Using this information as a common vocabulary and common understanding, Southern Oregon Success works across all sectors to implement trauma-informed practices that result in better outcomes for all. Their most recent project is the development of the Southern Oregon Early Childhood Support Network, designed by the community to provide an equitable opportunity for every child to enter Kindergarten ready to thrive
Prior to his work in the legislature, Peter worked for over 22 years as an actor, director, writer, producer and administrator for west coast regional theatres, including 6 years as the school director of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre. His wife, Joan Langley, is now retired after 30+ years as Education Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
